Dialogue
Video Installation
2003
4 monitors, @ 4 minute endlessly repeating loops

Self and other. The other in one's self. A series of video loops shot into curved and cut mylar. Presented at eye level and on pedestals, the monitors are carefully placed in the installation to invite the viewer to identify with or confront my mirrored selves. A transparent process: no special effects were used. The three pieces can be shown separately or together.

Dialogue I

Two monitors face each other. In one I appear to be kissing myself, merging with myself in the center. In the other I appear to be in great pain, unable to tear away from myself. Separation and Wholeness. Love and Fear. Mania and Depression. The complete immersion in opposing emotional states. The viewer must turn his/her head to watch the screens as the monitors are placed such that only one can be seen at a time.

Dialogue II

Facing a corner, reflected in a mirror, two similar yet distinct characters emerge and disappear on opposite sides of the screen (actually folded and cut mylar). Curious, self-concious, looking and aware of being looked at by the viewer and the other self. The viewer must stand in a corner and peer around the monitor and into a mirror, heightening one's sense of voyeurism, mimicking the actions on the screen.

Dialogue III

I face the viewer. Sliding across my face is another face, distorted. With time, the centered face appears distorted as well. Do you see me or simply another reflection of me? Do I see you or simply my image of you? Behind every reflection is another illusion, sliding back to the surface, yet in the shifting sometimes a glimpse of truth.
