In psychodynamics, "cathexis" is defined as the process of investment of mental or emotional energy in a person, object, or idea. In psychoanalysis, cathexis is the libido's charge of energy. Cathexis comes from the Greek "kathexis," meaning "to hold." In the images there is a fluidity between psyche and gesture, interior and exterior of the body, the hair a kind of corporeal agent of the body's struggle to contain itself. The figures attempt to contain or protect themselves from the hair that spills out or attempts to penetrate their bodies - an organic network that seems to have its own intelligence.
